How it is made

Fresh pressed pineapple juice is made by extracting the juice from ripe pineapples, typically using a juicer or press. The process preserves the natural sugars and flavors of the fruit, resulting in a juice that is both sweet and refreshing.

History

Pineapples originated in South America and were cultivated by indigenous peoples long before European contact. The fruit became popular in Europe during the 17th century, leading to the use of its juice in various culinary applications, including cocktails. The tropical allure of pineapple juice has made it a staple in bartending since the rise of tiki culture in the mid-20th century.

In cocktails

Bartenders use fresh pressed pineapple juice in a variety of cocktails, from classic tiki drinks like the Mai Tai to modern creations. It can be used as a mixer with spirits such as rum, vodka, or gin, and is often combined with other fruit juices for a balanced flavor. For serving, it is best chilled and can be garnished with fresh fruit or herbs for an added touch.

Worth knowing

Pineapple juice contains bromelain, an enzyme that can tenderize meat and is often used in marinades.
