What it is

24cocktails.com is a catalogue of cocktail recipes: exact measures in ounces and millilitres, the method step by step, the glass, the ice and the garnish, and a picture of every drink. It covers the classics, their variations, tiki and modern drinks, and about a thousand zero-proof recipes. Every recipe is readable in 36 languages.

The Site is independent. It carries no advertising, sells nothing, and is not affiliated with any brand, distillery or distributor. Recipes are free to read, and the same catalogue is open to software through a free API and MCP server.

Who runs it. The Site is published by Alex Semensky, publishing as 24cocktails, since 2026; the Impressum has the legal details and the contact page the addresses.

How the recipes are made

• Where the recipes come from. The catalogue is compiled from published open recipe collections and normalised to one format: measures converted to millilitres, ingredient names mapped onto one shelf of bottles, one picture generated for every drink. It is not a transcription of any single bar book, and the recipes have not been read page by page against a printed edition.
• Measures. Measures are given in both ounces and millilitres, with the method that suits the drink (stirred, shaken, built or blended). Where a source collection left a measure or a step out, it was filled in by a language model from the drink and its other ingredients — a sensible build rather than a documented one. Tell us about one that reads wrong and it is corrected.
• Origins. Where a drink names the book, film, bar, person or city it came from, that attribution is in the sources section: two AI models were asked separately and only their agreement was published. Every row there says whether it was checked by an editor or is only a two-model agreement.
• Corrections. Mistakes are fixed against the sources, usually within a week. Send a recipe URL and what is wrong to the address below or through the support page.
• Translations. English and Russian are written and edited by hand. The other 34 languages are machine translation (OpenAI gpt-4o-mini) produced against a glossary of bar terms, measures and drink names, and published without being read by a person; measures, numbers and brand names are carried over unchanged. Send the address of a page with a bad line to the address below and it is corrected in the next rebuild.

Pictures and AI

The pictures are illustrations, not photographs. No drink on this Site was poured and photographed. Each picture is generated by an image model from the recipe's own data — the glass it is served in, the ice, the garnish, and the colour its ingredients give it — and a vision model then checks the finished picture against that same recipe: whether the glass is the one the recipe names, whether the garnish contradicts it, whether the colour is possible for the ingredients, and whether anything stray (text, a logo, a hand) got into the frame. A picture that fails is regenerated. Every file carries that fact inside itself, as IPTC/XMP provenance metadata, so it keeps saying it wherever it is reposted. Treat them as accurate drawings of what the drink should look like, not as evidence that it was made.

Part of the text is drafted by a model too. The recipe descriptions, the step wording, the ingredient encyclopedia, the holiday collections and the notes under the popular recipes are drafted with gpt-4o-mini from the catalogue's own data and the sources listed above. The measures, the glassware, the method and the strength come from the recipe data, not from the model, and the non-English versions of all of it are automatic translations. None of it is edited line by line by a person, so if something reads wrong, send the page's address to [email protected] or use the support page and it gets fixed.
